The lang parameter when creating a new bot specifies the language of the recording content. Skribby maintains a central list of supported languages that works across all transcription models, making it easy to switch between transcription models without changing your language settings.

The lang parameter is optional. If not provided, the transcription model will use its automatic language detection system.

Language Support Across Models

If a transcription model does not support a specific language from the central list, Skribby will still accept the language parameter but the transcription model will fall back to automatic language detection. This design ensures that language selection is independent of transcription model choice, allowing you to seamlessly switch between transcription models without updating your language settings.

When using realtime models

The lang parameter is required when using realtime transcription models. Not providing a lang parameter when starting the bot with a realtime model will lead into the realtime websocket stream not working properly.

Exception: soniox-realtime supports automatic language detection. When using soniox-realtime, you can optionally omit the lang parameter to enable automatic language detection, or provide a lang parameter to specify the language explicitly.
